What is ASTM A193 Grade B8M
B8M is the 316 stainless steel bolting grade under ASTM A193. The addition of molybdenum provides superior corrosion resistance compared to B8 (304 SS).
Class 1 vs Class 2
B8M is available in two classes:
Class 1 (Solution Annealed): Yield strength 30 ksi min
Class 2 (Strain Hardened): Yield strength 95 ksi min (sizes up to 3/4")

Q: Is B8M Class 2 NACE MR0175 compliant?
A: No. B8M Class 2 hardness can reach 35 HRC, exceeding the 22 HRC limit for NACE MR0175 sour service. For NACE service, specify B8M Class 1 with hardness controlled to 22 HRC max, or use B8M with a qualified hardness limitation.
Q: What is the difference between B8 and B8M?
A: B8 is 304 stainless steel. B8M is 316 stainless steel with molybdenum added for improved chloride pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
Q: What is the maximum service temperature?
